Carrying forward the tradition

Shapco’s story begins with Sidney Shapiro, who learned the printing trade in 1937 while attending vocational high school in Minneapolis. While serving in WWII, Sid printed announcements and crew information in the print shop aboard a Navy sub-chaser vessel. Sid returned home and purchased a small print shop in 1950, where his reputation for community loyalty, service, and uncompromising quality grew further.

When Sid passed away, his son Joel Shapiro felt inspired to continue his father’s printing legacy. In 1976, Joel founded Shapco Printing with a commitment to craftsmanship, continuous reinvestment, and providing clients with exceptional print. Joel grew the company with help from his two brothers Alan and Bob, cementing Shapco’s reputation as one of the Midwest’s premier printers. Today, Joel’s son and son-in-law are active contributors to Shapco’s business and carry forward that same commitment to excellence.

Founding

Joel opens the doors of Shapco Printing in 1976 in Minneapolis, MN.

Late 1980s

Major investments in tradespeople and new equipment sparked a quality revolution at Shapco.

Mid 2000s

Shapco enters the fulfillment solutions space to offer customers a one-stop shop of print, warehousing, and on-demand fulfillment.

Early 2010s

Shapco relocates to a larger location in Golden Valley, MN to accommodate growing warehousing needs and better serve customers.

2026

Shapco celebrates 50 years in operation.
