How can a printer become a Grammy Winner??? Print an award winning book for “The White Stripes” published by Chronicle Books out of San Francisco, photographer Autumn de Wilde. The White Stripes book was printed with double black duotones with bump plate special mix White Stripes “Red” ink and 4 color process with same White Stripes Red bump plate throughout. Winner of “Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package” at the 2011 Grammy Awards.
Shapco Printing is the most awarded printer in the upper Midwest. Our awards spread from east to west coast and now being associated by printing a book that has won a Grammy Award, we are all just thrilled and proud of the work we produce here at Shapco Printing. We are told we are the craftsmen of the printing industry. We are very proud of our work, talent and dedication and plan to continue producing award winning work.
Keep an eye on Shapco, we have only scratched the surface, and we plan on continuing our climb to the top, www.shapco.com/theartofprinting.

After 34 years, Shapco continues to evolve to meet customers’ needs and expectations. Within the last twelve months, a lot has changed: We replaced a 40″ UV press and a 40″ conventional press with newer 6-color models. In our mailing department, we added a high-resolution Domino Imaging device which can ink-address over aqueous and synthetic substrates. (No need to knock-out aqueous on your mailing panels!) We installed a 4-color UV Jet Press for small to large runs of pre-converted envelopes. Lastly, our fulfillment area has met with such great success that we have added significant capacity and capabilities just two blocks away.
Last week a new customer came forward and shared her analogy of how Shapco is “The best kept secret in town — like the restaurant that is located in an old part of town and that consistently produces the best food and service, that nobody knows about. Shapco consistently produces great quality and offers unsurpassed service with enormous capacity that so few people are aware of.”
Did you know Shapco has a 5-color Heidelberg GTO Press that has been retro-fitted to print pre-converted envelopes as large as 10″ x 13″? This saves the customer the cost of having to print the envelope on flat sheets and then having them converted.

Shapco Printing is located in the heart of the Minneapolis Warehouse district, known for the solid brick buildings from the 1800’s. We’re kitty-corner to the new Twins baseball field (Target Field), and ironically we’re still surrounded by some cobblestone streets. Although it has been the 8th snowiest winter since 1870, Shapco has remained open 24/7 – even on days when other businesses have closed due to the extreme weather. At Shapco, we are dedicated, warm-blooded Minnesotans with a strong work ethic. We keep the presses rolling, even at 22 below zero. When you give us a deadline to meet, we’re serious about making sure we meet it!
Shapco is proud to serve clients across the country. It’s always a delight when a client arrives for a press check from California, Arizona, or Florida in the winter. They are always amazed at the ease of getting around in the snow, how clear the streets are, and many are surprised at how “warm” it actually feels outside. They love experiencing the winter activities around Minneapolis: The Chambers Hotel where the Belvedere Ice Bar is surrounded with flaming fire pits; the illuminated cross-country ski races across Lake Calhoun; the ice houses that fill our lakes and the cars/trucks that drove out on the ice always seems to freak them out a bit!
Shapco is more than a printing company, we are a family. We have a passion for what we do, and we strive to do it well. Year after year, Shapco continues to grow and succeed. Our press operators have an average of 24 years of printing experience, with an average of 15 years at Shapco. Dedicated, loyal employees make up the Shapco family. It may be 18 degrees outside, but we are at a comfortable 70 degrees inside, so visit Shapco today!

Wow! I’m proud to say that I’m a new member of Shapco Printing; returning to a family based business dedicated to exceptional quality and customer service.
Let me share a little history: I have been in the graphic arts business for over 30 years. I started my career at my family business – AG Johnson Electrotype Co. I was the 4th generation and only son. My initiation to the family business was working Summers sweeping floors, making deliveries, and unloading raw materials for manufacturing metal plates. After graduating from Blake High School, I went to the San Francisco bay area to college to pursue warm weather and the beach, with a minor in business.
After receiving my business degree, I followed in the 3 generations before me, and decided to join the family business. I had various roles within the family business, but primarily that of sales. I managed the business from 1993-1995. After 18 years, I decided it was time to leave the family business, and joined Maximum Graphics.
I joined Maximum in 1996. Over 15 years, the company had tremendous growth, and a few ownership changes. Maximum Graphics, Kelmscott Communications, and then Consolidated Graphics in 2005; today a $1 billion printing conglomerate. During my tenure, I obtained tremendous experience in generating and servicing large enterprise accounts. This allowed me to manufacture materials from east coast to west coast, as well as in Asia. Designing, creating, producing, printing, mailing, storing, and distributing printed materials on a national basis.
My experience allows me to share and incorporate national enterprise account management, security data compliance, domestic and international production expertise, a team of extraordinary customer service, exceptional quality, and “outside the box” ideas and problem solving.
My family consists of a beautiful and supportive wife (my greatest sales accomplishment ever) and 3 great children. I love golf, exercise, and reading. My mantra is “it’s Friday everyday” – live in the moment. I’m truly Blessed!

We have some exciting news! We just installed a 28 inch, mid-size press, a Komori 6-color with additional coating unit. The press runs a sheet size of 20 x 28, great for short-run 8.5×11 spec sheets or pocket folders up to 24 pt. board. Talk to your representative today about all of your printing needs.

A Minneapolis, start-up is offering a unique twist to the “reduce, reuse, recycle” mantra.
Regreet sells a kit for $11.99 that lets you re-use those $5 greeting cards you don’t want to throw away, and don’t want to keep on the mantle forever, either. Using their kit, you can cover up greetings and signatures, add your own, and send those cards you received on your birthday on a new journey. You can even follow your cards’ journeys on Regreet’s website, www.regreet.com.
So why’s a printing company encouraging re-using a perfectly disposable printed product? Because we’re keen on green, too. Over the last ten years, Shapco has participated with our local and national printing communities in becoming stewards of the earth. One of our efforts is to make sure that only paper from renewable resources gets into the supply system that printers depend on. You might be interested in reading about this at www.fscus.com/paper.
The company’s first anniversary is in October. Send them a card.
